The Great Fabric Explosion

hahaha, well my intentions to do this post last month did not quite come to fruition... which sounds like a whole lot of my good intentions... I'm a good idea person, I can come up with some doozies, some which work, some which are complete fantasies... I'm not so good about following through though, I have a problem sometimes with getting stuff finished that needs to be finished, especially in a timely manner.  Maybe I'm a little ADD?  Maybe it's just my creative juices?  Maybe it's just laziness?  probably some of all of the above.

so, I was going to give you a little glimpse into my creative world, but first a little background.  The pictures that you see are actually from our dining room (more like little breakfast nook).  But DD #1 took the dining room table to college this past year when she moved into an apartment and so I figured it made a nice little sewing area for me.  It did, and it does, but it's starting to overflow a little.  I need to make an effort to try to organize it (again)... my organizational spurts don't last very long it seems.

someday I'd really like to have a sewing room so I can have an ironing table, a cutting table, a sewing table, and walls and walls of cubbies and drawers... ahhhh, that'd be amazingly awesome.  but for now, this is a step up.  for the past many years I've done all my sewing in the living room while sitting on the couch.  Yes, sewing while sitting on the couch.  sewing machine in my lap.  uh huh, you read me right, I would sit comfortably, feet up on the ottoman, while the kids did their homework, played on the computer, played their video games, watched tv or movies... whatever... and I'd sit there with the sewing machine in my lap and I'd make their quilts or graduation quilts (that's a story for later) and so I had to limit my stash size because there was truly no where to keep it.  now I've been working on my stash, and it definitely shows.  I can't resist the lure of fabric now, it calls to me as soon as I get in the store... I go in for one little item... one little spool of thread... two hours later and a big bag later I finally emerge... luckily my mama taught me to shop and so my *little* sprees generally happen when the clearance fabrics go on sale, cause really that's when the fabric is 75% off the original price.  but I digress...

I have wonderful upholstery fabrics that a wonderful friend gave me, they make great fabric cards, but their original price is listed on some and they're so expensive that I definitely want to use them sparingly so that they can be spread out over time.

all of these wonderful fabrics, hopefully, will one day show up in a quilt project or on a fabric postcard.  I love the quilts because they have such an emotional connection to me, but since I have issues with (lack of) perfectionism, just wanting to get through projects and see the final results, details, etc. I love the fabric postcards because they give me a quick fix of feeling like I've accomplished something and I really hope that the people that get them will enjoy the look, the touch, the feel of them as much as I do.
